Ed Enos of Ellwood City stands in his 9-by-12-foot fallout shelter. The shelter was built in 1961 by the former owner of Enos’ home, Robert Forsyth. On the wall at right is a hand-cranked pump that would be used to draw air into the shelter through a pipe in the garage above. Further to the right are some of the nearly 50 one-gallon jugs of water that Enos found in the shelter when he first entered it in 1997. — Tiffany Wolfe/NEWS
